We built ScienceBasedKids.com to be transparent about children’s products. It would be pretty hypocritical if we weren’t transparent about how we handle your data, too. So here’s the full picture.
What We Collect (Not Much)
Analytics: Plausible
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how people use our site. Plausible is a privacy-respecting analytics tool that works without cookies and without collecting any personal data. Here’s what Plausible tracks in aggregate:
- Page views — which pages are visited and how often
- Referrer — where visitors came from (e.g., a search engine or social media)
- Country — general geographic location (country-level, not city or address)
- Device type — desktop, mobile, or tablet
- Browser and operating system — in aggregate, not tied to individuals
All of this data is aggregated. There is no individual tracking. No visitor profiles. No fingerprinting. We cannot identify you, and we don’t try to.
You can see exactly what we see — Plausible lets us make our dashboard public, and we do.
Affiliate Links
Our reviews contain affiliate links to retailers like Amazon. When you click one of these links, you leave ScienceBasedKids.com and go to that retailer’s site. At that point, the retailer’s own privacy policy applies — not ours.
We receive a commission if you make a purchase, but we do not receive any personal data about you from these transactions. We don’t know who clicked, who bought, or what else was in your cart. We see aggregate sales data: “X units of this product were sold through our links this month.” That’s it.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored and managed by Buttondown, our email service provider. Here’s what you should know:
- We only use your email to send you the newsletter you signed up for
- We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone
- You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email
- If you unsubscribe, your email is removed from our list
Cookies
We don’t use cookies. Plausible is cookieless. We don’t run retargeting ads, tracking pixels, or any third-party scripts that set cookies. There’s no cookie consent banner on our site because there are no cookies to consent to.
Children’s Privacy (COPPA)
ScienceBasedKids.com is a resource for parents, caregivers, and educators. Our content is written for adults. We do not direct any part of our site at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has somehow submitted personal information to us, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
Hosting
Our site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare may collect standard web server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps, pages requested) as part of normal server operations and security. This is handled by Cloudflare under their own privacy policy. We do not access or use individual server log data.
